Mosaic is your portal to alternative data. In one module you will be able to easily consume data across multiple datasets with coverage spanning hundreds of tickers.

Let’s begin by launching Mosaic via the drop-down menu as shown below:

mosaic_start

Try opening Mosaic by entering either a ticker, keyword (for Google Trends), or URL (for website traffic). Let’s start with a ticker, NFLX.

nflx intro

The Sentieo Index Chart displays Revenue Growth (black) vs. the Sentieo Index (dark blue), which is a correlation-weighted composite of alternative datasets. Since Revenue is selected below in the Sentieo Index Type toggles, the weight of each dataset corresponds to each dataset’s correlation to Revenue Growth. The Sentieo Index should be used as a screening tool to determine if any of the alternative datasets had relationships to Revenue. It is key to look into the components of the Sentieo Index to derive confidence in the signal (e.g. if multiple datasets are signaling an inflection in trends).

Use the ? icon next to the Sentieo Index Chart label for more information or refer to Sentieo Index Methodology.

nflx rev

Use the Sentieo Index Type toggle to switch to a Sentieo Index optimized for Stock Price or some Key Performance Indicator (KPI). Lets try looking at a KPI. The revenue growth line is now replaced with North America Net Sales Growth:

Use the ? icon to the right of the Sentieo Index Type header to determine which dependent variable (Revenue, Stock, or KPI) has the best relationship to the data. Click on the ? in that dropdown for more information on relationship metrics:

Try interacting with the series selector below the chart to toggle on/off visibility of various financial and alternative datasets. We suggest looking at all of the datasets to understand what is driving the Sentieo Index.

You can also scroll down to interact with our Unified Tracker (below image is for AMZN). The table is divided horizontally by dataset and vertically by ticker (organized by peer group). Within a dataset grouping, we display a sparkline of the Monthly YoY trend over the past 6 months as well as some metrics to help track relationships, including the adjusted r-squared and hit rate. Hover over the ? icons to learn more about those.

Scroll down to look at a chart of Worldwide and United States Google Trends data. By default we display the Level of Worldwide Google Trends (black) along with a quarterly moving average of the YoY growth rates in Worldwide (gold) and United States (red) data. In this chart, you can notice that US trends have decelerated since July 2016 while worldwide trends have trended sideways. You can also toggle on levels, YoY, and monthly/quarterly moving averages of the YoY data within the series selectors.

Now scroll down to see Twitter Mentions. Here we will breakdown all brands related to a ticker. Let’s try it out for URBN by entering the ticker in the input box at the upper left part of the page. From this you can scroll down to see website traffic and Instagram data as well.

Now, try using the sidebar toggles to explore other parts of the Mosaic:

Search Interest

Clicking on the Search Interest bar after selecting a ticker will bring up a page of Search Interest charts which allows you to visualize data for all brands mapped to that ticker. If you want to search a brand that might not be mapped to a ticker, just click on the Click to edit link in the box below. You can also enter a keyword from the initial Mosaic launch screen to pull this up.

Website Traffic

Now try clicking on the website traffic section on the left sidebar. On this page and in Plotter we include the following metrics from Alexa.com:

  • Reach Page: the proportion of total internet users that visit a website. The number is expressed per million users

  • Page Views: the proportion of total page views that website has. This number is expressed per million page views

  • Rank: Alexa’s ranking in site popularity

Dashboard

Now click on the Dashboard section of the sidebar. This is where we organize data and relationship metrics by peer groups and by datasets.

By default the Dashboard will show all Mosaic tickers split up by various subsectors within Consumer, Tech, and Healthcare.

To rank stocks across your portfolio select the Followed Tickers Only and Hide Sector Labels buttons below.

Click on the headers to rank by Acceleration Scores or Relationship Metrics on the right side of the table, and use the sparklines on the left side to see what monthly YoY trends have looked like for the last 6 months.
